The town landfill, Local Drop Off for trash and recycling, is open on Thursdays and Sundays.

Responding to a request by the Board of Selectmen, pursuant to their vote on December 6, 2016, the Board of Health, on January 31, 2017, voted unanimously to raise the disposal cost of small bags of garbage, at the town LDO, from $1.25 to $2.00. The cost of a large bag was left unchanged despite the selectmen's request that it also be raised.

This action was taken to bring these costs in line with all the towns that are members of the Martha's Vineyard Regional Refuse District, removing any incentive for residents of other island towns to bring their garbage to Aquinnah.

The fees thus collected do not remotely approach the actual costs of municipal disposal, recycling, and dump maintenance. The balance of those costs come from the town tax base. Thus, by having kept the drop-off fees lower, the Aquinnah taxpayers were actually subsidizing the handling of the trash and recycling of the residents of other island towns who could have taken advantage of the past fee disparity. In the larger picture, therefore, while the financial pain when you bring your trash to the dump may seem burdensome, the actual aggregate cost to the town taxpayers is reduced.
