An Aquinnah LDO vehicle sticker is required to use the Local Drop Off. Local Drop Off coupons and stickers are available for purchase from the attendant at the LDO. Aquinnah resident may use any of the Landfills in the Martha's Vineyard Regional Refuse District (Aquinnah, Chilmark, West Tisbury and Edgartown).

Location

The Aquinnah town dump, located on State Road just east of the Lobsterville Road intersection, functions as a Local Drop Off (LDO) facility for the Martha's Vineyard Regional Refuse Disposal District (MVRRD).

This is where you may disposed of your trash locally, during their days and hours of operation. When the dump is closed please take your garbage to one of the other MVRRD locations or to Bruno's on County Road in Oak Bluffs.

Acceptable Recyclables

The Aquinnah town dump accepts recyclables in the form of [1] "single stream" recyclables consisting of household metal and plastic containers as one receives when buying groceries, and [2] paper and cardboard, properly bundled. These are accepted free of charge, the handling of which is paid for by the town taxes you pay. The Aquinnah Board of Health requests your help by cleaning all food scraps from recyclables and only placing recyclable items in the recyclables. In the current recycling climate it is hard for the town to find recyclers that will accept recyclables that are not clean free from debris. Plastic shopping bags are not accepted as recyclable but should be included with your household garbage (see below).

It also accepts Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) which consists of normal household garbage for which there is a charge depending on quantity, payable by cash or check only, to the dump attendant.

Additional Information

All users must handle their own trash at the dump facility by placing it in the proper containers as directed by the dump attendant.

All users are required to display a town dump sticker, available to all town residents, which may be purchased from the dump attendant. Senior citizens may receive their sticker free of charge.

You may also dispose of the items mentioned above at the MVRRD near the Martha's Vineyard Airport on the Edgartown-West Tisbury Road, in Edgartown. They also accept other items not accepted at the Aquinnah dump. You may contact them at 508/627-4501 during normal business hours for more information and their hours of operation. They also have a website at

Thank you for disposing of your trash responsibly.
