Aquinnah Climate and Energy Committee

Agenda

September 2, 2025, 4 pm

  1. Climate Leaders -- Green Communities 2.0.   Our application for Climate Leader status was filed before the deadline of June 30.  If our application is approved, we will be invited to submit a grant request for up to $1 million for green energy and/or energy efficiency measures.  We will discuss possible uses of a grant, including Decarbonized heating of the fire house, a microgrid for the Town buildings, and a Level 3 EV charger.

  1. Land Use Initiative.  A group from all six towns has neared completion of a possible model bylaw to limit damage to vegetation in connection with excavation and development projects. We will be joined by Sakiko Isomichi, who has led this initiative and who has recently replaced Kate Warner as Climate Resilience Planner at the Martha’s Vineyard Commission.

  1. MVP 2.0 Program.  We may have an update on the Martha’s Vineyard Commission’s work with DOER to help the six island towns to apply together to qualify for the new iteration of the MVP program, called MVP 2.0.

  1. Leaf Blower Bylaw.  We will discuss whether to propose that Aquinnah join the other island towns in adopting a bylaw to regulate the use of gas-powered leaf blowers.

  1. Other Business.
